Best Things To Do In Abu Dhabi With Kids

Family Days Out In Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi was an unexpected surprise. Don’t get me wrong, we thought it would be okay, and wanted to give it a try, but we never comprehended just how good this place would be.

If you like food and nice restaurants, Abu Dhabi has it all. Any cuisine, from any country, they can do it and do it extremely well! Whilst here, we ate at the best Indian restaurant we’ve ever been to, and the best Buffet we’ve ever been to. The quality and service everywhere you go is simply unbelievable.

For those seeking activities, you have waterparks, theme parks, zoos and even the Louvre!

No matter who you are, Abu Dhabi has something for everyone!

Places To Visit, Eat & Sleep in Abu Dhabi, UAE

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi.
Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Abu Dhabi.

I’m not usually one for walking and touring buildings. I typically prefer to look from a distance and say “Wow. That looks nice.” And then move on. So you know when I recommend visiting a tourist location like this, that it’s actually VERY, VERY GOOD!

The architecture is outstanding, and the fact that it’s an operating mosque, gives it an even more realistic feel, as worshippers mix with visitors to enhance the experience.

If you’re in Abu Dhabi, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is a must!

TOP TIPS

  • Plan your trip just before sunset, and you’ll get to see this majestic building in all it daylight glory, but also fantastically lit up in the evening.
  • Do NOT catch a taxi from inside the airport departure terminal. They charge nearly 10x the price of the taxis right outside the front door. Simply step a few yards outside the front door, where all the taxis are Mercedes, have fixed prices, and are VERY cheap.

Warner Bros. World

Warner Bros World in Abu Dhabi is a huge indoor theme park.

With over 40 rides, slides and attractions, there’s plenty for everyone to do.

Jumeirah at Etihad Towers

The Jumeirah Etihad Towers Hotel, in Abu Dhabi.
Jumeirah Hotel Lobby, Etihad Towers, Abu Dhabi.

Not only are the Etihad Towers amazing to see, highlighting the Abu Dhabi skyline from miles around. It is also an amazing place to stay at the Jumeirah at Etihad Towers.

When you arrive at the Etihad Towers, everything very quickly acknowledges that you’ve made an excellent choice.

When you pull up outside the front door, two gentlemen, one each side, will open the doors of the taxi, so that you can step out and walk towards the glass front doors.

As you approach the doors, another person is already there, waiting to open the door as you walk through.

Next, you enter the magnificent hotel lobby, and are greeted with a cool towel, and a refreshing local drink.

At check-in, you receive a free upgrade on the hotel room that you booked, and walking into your upgraded room, find locally sourced dates (a local favourite), a bottle of champagne, and a plate of fresh fruit.

The décor is modern, the bedrooms are large, the views are amazing. We were so impressed with our stay, that we booked another 3 days.

The hotel breakfast varies daily, and there is so much on offer, that you won’t be left wanting.

Punjab Grill

Punjab Grill is the best restaurant in Abu Dhabi. Excellent for service, taste, and design.
Punjab Grill. Best Place To Eat In Abu Dhabi!

One thing we never realised about Abu Dhabi, was just how good the food and service would be. But the selection, quality and choice in mind-blowing.

Punjab Grill itself exceeded all of our expectations, and remains to this day one of our favourite restaurants in the world! When it comes to the Punjab Grill, it’s not even about the meal you have, but about everything that comes with it!

The atmosphere is friendly, the servers helpful, and main course amazing… but it’s all the extras that you didn’t expect that make this place above and beyond every other place that we ate in Abu Dhabi – and that means a lot, because we ate at some AMAZING restaurants here!

The starters were the best I have ever experienced at an Indian Restaurant – in any country in the world.
The amuse bouche was unexpected and delightful.
The main course tasted fresh, and exquisite.
But the dessert…it was to DIE for!

Pradeep was our server, and was so good, it felt like we had our own personal butler for the night.

If I had one place to eat in Abu Dhabi… this would be it!

TOP TIPS

  • It’s a little distance out of the centre of Abu Dhabi, so time it with a trip to the nearby Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.
  • Use the ‘Entertainer’ app to get half price.

The Terrace on the Corniche

The best buffet in Abu Dhabi. The Terrace on The Corniche. Amazing selection, fantastic range of desserts.
The Terrace On The Corniche. Best Buffet In Abu Dhabi.

The Terrace on the Corniche has got to be the best buffet restaurant that I have been to anywhere in the world. The ingredients were the most fresh, the dishes were the tastiest, and the selection was impressive.

The food is so fresh, you would think it had all been cooked just for you. No matter what your particular tastes, this place has plenty for everyone, and the dessert selection…MY OH MY!

Shish Shawerma

Shish Shawerma is a fantastic little fast food place, with fresh ingredients and local cuisine.

One of the popular local dishes is Shawerma, and if you’re looking for a great Shawerma, then look no further than this cozy little fast food joint.

Friendly service, freshly baked bread on site, and delicious food for and excellent price.

TOP TIPS

  • Try the fresh Kaakeh
  • Go for the Guava Juice

World Trade Center Mall

World Trade Center Mall in Abu Dhabi. One side of the mall is designed after a traditional Souk. The other side is a fantastic modern mall.
World Trade Center Mall, Abu Dhabi.

So this place doesn’t have very good reviews on Trip Advisor, but we LOVED it!

On one side you have a clean and stylish Mall with a supermarket, cinema and all of your favourite stores. And on the other side, a modern take on a traditional outdoor souk (although indoors and away from the scorching heat).

If you want to go shopping, then this is a fun way to have two experiences in one.

TOP TIPS

  • Don’t try to walk in the heat of the day…we made this mistake!

Marina Mall

A giant mammoth. 4D cinemas, restaurants and cafes. Shops galore. Marina Mall in Abu Dhabi has it all (even a supermarket).
Marina Mall. Abu Dhabi.

Still an excellent mall, with a good selection of cheaper brands than the more upmarket World Trade Center Mall. But still very modern, friendly and fun.

You’ll find a fantastic 4D Cinema, a full size Mammoth Skeleton, a supermarket, plenty of food options (including Five Guys), and a vast selection of shops.

TOP TIPS

  • Dress appropriately and respectfully. Locals also shop here and are more accustomed to modest clothing.
